Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students love to talk about what they have learned in school, and what better people to share it with than their parents. In our fast paced world, many parents work 40 hours a week and have little time to spend with their children. With the following activities and books the children will have the opportunity to show their parents all the neat things they have learned in school. It will not only create a bonding experience for the students, their parents, and siblings as well, but it will reinforce what they have learned in the classroom with the hands on activities. I am a fourth grade bilingual teacher, Spanish and English, in East New York, Brooklyn. Over 98 percent of our school receives free lunch. The majority of my students speak English and Spanish in my class. Most of my students come from different countries such as the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Honduras and Mexico. My students are hard working, energetic children whose main focus is learning. My students are enthusiastic about learning. They enjoy all subjects, especially science. Please help us integrate hands on activities into our daily lessons, as well as giving the children a chance to take these activities home and teach their parents what they have learned about science. I am asking for Simple Machines Activity Kits. Having these activities in the classroom will provide the children with fascinating experiments as well as exploring the scientific process. My students will have the opportunity to construct their own levers, wheels, and pulleys. They will also work with friction and force. I am also asking for the Learning Science Libraries which will give the students an in depth look at simple machines which relates to the activities kit. These books will reinforce and extend the concepts in the kit. I am also asking for simple machine discovery kits. This kit will introduce simple machines and how they work with hands on models. Thank you for helping my students learn through hands on activities.
