This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work in an inner-city early childhood school that has a wonderful indoor garden located on the third floor. We have several raised garden beds as well as a large pot of aloe vera and a two-year-old orange tree we have been growing since it was a small seedling. Our indoor garden also features a mini library with nature-themed books, several garden games and toys, and nutrition education materials. With its big sunny windows and green warmth all year round our garden is a favorite spot for many. Unfortunately, we have recently started having issues with two types of insects that are common in indoor plants. We have soil gnats that are mostly just a nuisance to the humans around the garden and we have spider mites that are actively harming the plants.

I am asking for several different natural and child-safe pest control items to help solve our indoor gardens' spider mite and soil gnat issues.

I am asking for hydrogen peroxide to treat the soil for immature gnats and peppermint oil spray to deter the adults. I am also asking for an all-natural spray concentrate that will help treat the spider mites and a sprayer to apply it to the garden. I hope you will consider donating to our indoor school garden!
