The CIS Turtle Patrol to the rescue! I teach math, science, and ELA for a group of 21 fifth grade students. We have been a title one school up until this past year. We are located in a southern rural area in the south.

Our class has signed up to partake in the Disney Planet Challenge that is open for grades 4-6. The goal of this challenge is to raise students’ awareness regarding an issue that challenges Earth’s environment. My students have chosen to raise public awareness on the life of sea turtles, the human and natural impacts on the turtles, and ways communities and individuals can help save the sea turtles.

We are in need of various art supplies ranging from scrapbooking materials, paints, paper products, and stencils. We have already begun fundraising efforts. However, we are limited on the supplies needed to create our Disney Planet Challenge Scrapbook, our theatrical production (props and costumes), and our school and parent awareness night. If we are able to access these resources they will provide our class with a stronger chance to help raise the money that they are then going to donate to various turtle rescue organizations.

With your help and support my students will be more successful in both their learning and fund raising goals. The students have spent hours dedicating their class and personal time to reach our fundraising goals. They have spent hours outside of restaurants trying to raise money, they have given up their recess and weekends creating songs and posters to promote their cause, and they have arrived at school early in order to sell breakfast sandwiches in order to raise money. They have also written letters to local and state businesses, companies, and churches. Their total fund raising goals are to be able to donate over $7,000 to various turtle rescue organizations throughout the world. We need all the help that we can get. If we do not receive help with funding our art supply needs then we will need to pull out of our fund raising account.
