My first grade students come to school excited about learning, inquisitive and full of energy! They arrive each day ready to learn while putting their trust in me to provide the necessary ingredients for an engaging lesson.
Our school is in a rural section of Eastern Oklahoma at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains.
While surrounded by picturesque landscapes, it's also considered a low-income area. Many families struggle with unemployment and generational poverty.
Every student in my classroom has the desire to read and learn. While each child comes to me with different learning styles and abilities, I try to meet their needs in a variety of ways including whole group, hands-on learning experiences and individual instruction to ensure their educational needs are met. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to develop a love of learning in every child in my classroom! Every year is a new chance to help build upon the educational foundation on which a child grows and I'm thrilled to be a part of their lifelong adventure into learning.
My Project
The books which I have chosen coordinate with our new reading curriculum. These books will enhance my students' reading choices which will allow them to be more engaged in a rich environment of printed material. My classroom library is sparse at best and these books will enable my kids to thrive! As an avid reader myself, I can ensure each book will be handled with care and enjoyed for many years to come.
The old adage "practice makes perfect" is certainly true when it comes to reading.
My students will be able to choose books that interest them which encourages reading. The more they read the more proficient readers they will become. All first grade students come to school with the desire to learn to read. These books will help enrich their experiences with the printed word while giving them the opportunity to become life-long readers.
