Hello! I teach full day kindergarten in an inner city classroom. We have 28 students in our room and love to sing, dance and complete art projects whenever possible. My para are I love working with our kids, but sometimes find ourselves frustrated with the lack of resources.

We go to school from 8:15-4:00, and have a very long day. Even with the long day,we have very little time to spend on art projects. In our reading curriculum, we do have a lot of opportunities to include art, but due to a lack of supplies, we often have to cut these extra activities. I do what I can, but financially, purchasing our supplies is draining my personal budget. Last year, I was lucky enough to receive a grant for art supplies, but these supplies are running low and are almost gone.

In order to include arts in the classroom, I would begin integrating the creative parts of the reading and math curriculum into our day. (Parts that are often cut out due to lack of supplies) These types of projects include collages, painting, and using art supplies to enrich our curriculum in general.

I would also send art supplies home with the children, to be used and returned. If I send family projects home, parent and children are often unable to participate because they lack supplies. However, if I can send some of these materials home, families would be able to send in completed projects. (Recently, I was asked to send crayons and glue sticks home.) These art supplies would not only benefit children in the classroom, but out of the classroom as well. Please help us include art in our everyday lives!
