My Students

My students are some of the best and brightest that could go through a classroom. Unfortunately, they have the responsibility of life before they can focus on their education. There are some students that have to work to provide for their parents, siblings, or even themselves. They are some of the hardest working individuals I know. I want to provide them every opportunity to be successful.

There is a lack of scientific knowledge in our society, and I want to provide engaging, cross-curricular opportunities for my students.

My students need access to materials that are not mandated by the state. My students need opportunities to learn the curriculum outside of the required text. My students deserve to have independence in how they learn the content. This project serves that purpose.

Today's student is resourceful. They have a catalog of all known knowledge at their fingertips, but they need direction. I want to provide my students as many perspectives as they need to find the curiosity to learn. When education becomes intrinsic the process becomes impossible. Scientific thinking is a rare skill in today's society. I want to provide my students with every opportunity to gain scientific knowledge based on their choice.

My Project

I am a chemistry teacher struggling to inspire my students with a wonderful science. I see students that are unmotivated by the grind that is a traditional public school. I want to provide my students with an opportunity to learn chemistry through one of the oldest forms of teaching, storytelling. I am trying to build an in-class library that my students can check out and return at any time during my class in order to show them real-world applications where chemistry played a vital role regardless of a classroom setting.

Storytelling is the oldest form of education, and I want to bring the method to the complex subject of chemistry.

Imagine learning radiation and radioactive decay through the lenses of WWII scientists. Imagine learning chemistry as you cook a meal at home from a chemistry themed cookbook. Imagine learning chemistry through some of the world's most historic moments. I want to provide an opportunity for my students to break the textbook and take control of their education in an age of limitless information.
