My beautiful young students range in age between five to seven years old. Unfortunately, most of my students already have obstacles blocking a successful beginning to their academic and social journey. Many live in poverty, struggle with the English language and have extremely limited resources. Some of my students are homeless or are in foster care. Some are new to our country while others live with a caretaker other than their parent.
Even though they are faced with so many challenges, they come to school every day with a willingness and a desire to learn.
If you were to visit our classroom you would not know my students were faced with so many challenges because their positive energy and desire to learn is noticed right away!
My Project
My first graders put their best efforts into their work because they love to learn. Although students' families struggle to get their basic needs met, I don't think that should happen in our classroom too. We have a very old printer that prints in black ink only. Many times it jams and is out of service until I have extra time to try to fix it. It's always a mystery when I hit the print button because I can never be sure if it will actually work.
Having a color printer in our classroom, that also serves as a copier, will help me bring my students best efforts forward.
We will be able to make color copies of the work that is completed as well as copies of any computer work. One of our projects will included making a colorful classroom book about our learning adventures where each student will receive his or her own copy!
