I have a room full of eager and active First Graders. Sometimes we get so excited that we can't even find where to sit down! We need a cheerful carpet of different colored squares to help us find our "Special Spot" at calendar time and get ready for our day. Many of my students are also English Language Learners, so having a visual color to go to can be a soothing relief in their new world of language and text. We will spend at least an hour of each day on the carpet doing word building exercises and calendar activities so it will be put to great use. At the moment my classroom does not get much natural light and the carpet is a dismal dark grey. My students and I would be so happy to have a colorful carpet on which to have meetings and learn together.
