Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I strive to provide my students with the tools they need to lead a successful life. In the educational setting, one of those, if not the best tool is technology. This year I have such an amazing group of students ready to get tech savvy!

My twenty-seven six and seven year old students are full of excitement, energy, and enthusiasm for learning.

Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area which can impact their family educational support at home. Many of my students come from Spanish speaking and/or single parent working homes that are unable to provide as much academic support to their children as they want to.

We are a Title I school, and more than 80% of our students are in the free/reduced-price lunch program at our school. Despite the negative odds against many of my students, their spirits remain positive about learning. Their love for learning is addictive and spreads to our staff every day.

My Project

I am on a mission to provide on- to-one technology devices to my amazing first grade students! Technology is thriving in our culture and as a public school teacher I feel it is my responsibility to bring my students' up to date with all that technology has to offer. I hope you will partner with me to make this dream a reality in my classroom!

Technology is essential in day to day life as an adult.

This being said, I believe it is important that I provide my first graders with the opportunity to learn and practice technology skills at this early stage in their development. This iPad will be used daily in my classroom to provide intensive reading and math instruction for my students. I plan to utilize this project in my small group rotations.

In my classroom, there are multiple opportunities for technology use but due to funding, there are not enough devices for each student to use at the same time. So for now, this device will be used in a small group. Students will log into our school's technology reading program to practice letters and sounds, sight words, and comprehension skills. Students will also use this iPad for individualized math instruction. Our school uses a math facts program that increases students' fluency in math facts through the use of technology.

In previous grants, I have been funded iPads and as I mentioned before my goal is to provide each student with an iPad in my classroom and through the help of DonorsChoose, I know this dream is possible.
