One unforgettable moment was watching a student who usually needs constant support stay focused, build independently, and smile when they completed their project!\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their faces lit up. Some immediately began building, while others carefully explored each piece with excitement and curiosity. For our non-verbal students, their joy, focus, and engagement said everything.\r\nNext, we will use these materials for small-group lessons, math and sequencing activities, and social skills like turn taking and cooperation. The snacks have helped support their focus, motivation, and engagement, especially during longer academic tasks. They are also being used as part of our behavior-support system to encourage positive choices and effort.\r\n\r\nOne special moment occurred when I opened the boxes and the students realized the snacks were for them. They were all so excited—smiling, laughing, and eagerly crowding around to see what was inside. Their excitement created such a warm and joyful atmosphere in the classroom. The students were extremely grateful, and many immediately asked what reward-system strategy we would use for them to earn the snacks.\r\n\r\nAs a class, we collaborated to create a points chart. Students can earn points for positive behavior, completing assignments, participating in lessons, and showing kindness. Once their charts are filled, they can choose a snack as a reward. This process helped build ownership and allowed students to practice decision-making and goal setting.\r\n\r\nWe also incorporated the snacks into a mini-lesson by sorting them into two categories: healthy snacks and sweet treats. The healthy options are available to students whenever they feel hungry, and they know they can simply ask for one. The sweet treats, on the other hand, will be used as reinforcements during small-group instruction to help maintain motivation and focus.\r\n\r\nOverall, their enthusiasm showed just how meaningful these small gestures are. The donations not only met a practical need but also strengthened our classroom community, boosted student engagement, and contributed to a positive learning environment.\r\n\r\n\r\nWe are currently working on a literacy and social-skills project, and the snacks will continue to support students' sustained attention during reading, writing, and collaborative activities. The next steps include increasing student independence during these tasks and helping them build stamina to complete multi-step assignments.
