They eagerly explored the sensory items and immediately pointed to the display wall, knowing it was meant for their work. As an educator, we know that academic success is deeply connected to a child´s emotional well-being. My students are using their motivational stickers, journals, and earbuds to calm their mind/body before the start of their day. My students are able to either draw a motivational poster based on our SEL trait for that week, OR they are able to write a note to me. I write back to all of my students by the end of the day and give them their journals back for the following day. My students and their parents LOVE this! I definitely feel like I am supporting my students and their emotional needs as well as building stronger relationships with them.\r\n\r\nHere are a few anonymous reflections from our 5th-grade students:\r\n\r\n\"I didn't know how to talk about my feelings before, but now I write them down and it helps me feel better.\"\r\n\r\n\"Miss Nelson, I love to be able to write to you. I feel like you really care about me and how I feel.\"\r\n\r\n\"I like writing about what I'm proud of.
