My students need their Media Center restored. Harvey took everything! We do not have furniture for a check out station. We would really like this receptionist desk that will serve for check outs and book processing.

My Students

Our students are part of a rural middle school campus in Southeast Texas. The middle school has about 550 incredible students. While our students have a great variety of interests and backgrounds, they all enjoy and benefit from hands on learning!

Due to Hurricane Harvey, our resilient students have experienced the loss of, not only their campus, but also their homes.

After being displaced for 6 weeks, our campus is back together in our portable Village. Students are excited and eager to recapture their lost learning adventures.

Students at HMS love to read. Last year our kiddos passed over 10,000 AR tests. (19 books per student) We would like to keep our students reading but the Media Center is in need of some furniture so we can do that! It is the saddest thing for me to hear, "can I check out a book?" when we have no way to do this.

My Project

After the flood waters of Harvey destroyed our entire campus, we moved into portable buildings and we now reside in what we refer to as "The Henderson Village". We love our Village. Each teacher has their own classroom and we even have a large portable that serves as our Library/Media Center. In the Media Center we have about 1500 new and used books that have been graciously gifted to us. We have bookcases on the way but we do not have a circulation desk.

The circulation desk will serve as the check-out desk, the book processing station and iPad help center, making it a very happening place!

We have library assistants ready to man the desk, but we do not financial sources for the desk.

When our students signed up to become a library assistant, they never dreamed we would lose our library and everything in it.

The students have been real troopers, sorting through our gifted books and now we are ready to process the books but do not have a desk or space to do this on. We would appreciate your help in obtaining this receptionist desk so the Media Center can return to normal!
