Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in Phoenix, Arizona, I am in a low-income/high poverty school. The students at my school have many different challenges that they have to conquer on a daily basis in and outside of school. Fortunately, the students do not let these challenges slow them down and come to school every day ready to learn. The teachers here at school are a great help to the students. The teachers do not only teach the students the subjects, they also teach them life skills/lesson throughout the year.
As a school, we provide free breakfast and lunch to about 95 percent of the students.
Allowing the students to eat at school for free has changed the learning environment for the better. The students are not hungry or thinking about if they will eat that day. This allows the students to think about their education. Our school goal is to try to create the best teaching environment. As a teacher, I do not want my students to think about just today. I want my students to think of the future.
My Project
In a school district that does not have many gyms, the students are forced to have physical education/ activity time outside. Since we are a K-5 school we have separate equipment for (K-2)(3-5) so kids can have reachable goals throughout our units. Unfortunately, our flags and P.E equipment are old, ripped, and only one size. This makes it difficult for our students to be successful in our units.
By providing us with flags and P.E equipment like soccer and basketballs, students will be able to be successful in many different units.
This will allow students to have a great experience and eliminate the feeling of failure because the student will have a reachable goal for our many different units. Last, the flags and P.E equipment will not only help in our P.E unit, but students will be able to achieve 60 minutes of activity a day well using the equipment during recess
