In a school district that does not have many gyms, the students are forced to have physical education/ activity time outside. In Arizona we reach temperatures up to 120 degrees. Even though as a teacher we stress the importance of drinking water some students do not or cannot due to lack of funds at home. This has resulted in two students having extreme dehydrations and going unconscious just this past school year. My co-worker and I lucky got to the students in time that they came back to conscious in time. This has not always been the case. Unfortunately, we have lost a student about 6 years ago due to a heat stroke. Many feel if the campus had an automated external defibrillator, the student may have been alive. Having an automated external defibrillator (AED)on campus can mean the difference between a student living or dying. An AED will make a huge difference on the campus. This will allow the campus safer and ready for a situation if it occurs.
