Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My incredible kindergarteners represent several different cultural backgrounds, and live on the Yakama Nation Reservation. They are full of joy and wonder, and love to learn!

My classroom is a special education inclusionary one.

This means that some of my students have special education needs and some do not, but they learn together in the same classroom. This is a wonderful way to learn, and a great environment in which to teach.

I teach in English and Spanish, as several of my students are from families in which Spanish is the primary language in the home. I have Native American, Hispanic, and Caucasian students who are from an area that is considered low-income (Title 1). Together we make a beautiful and fun place to learn!

My Project

Integrating the use of technology throughout the day is a vital part of our learning. We use iPads for student learning with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) as well as literacy and connecting the arts. We are very fortunate to have a set of iPads in our first grade classroom, but we need charging stations to organize and charge them. This project will greatly improve our ability to use the technology we have.

We need to embrace technology to make learning more engaging because when students are engaged and they are interested, that's where learning takes place.

Using technology in our classrooms not only engages students but is an amazing tool to build a foundation for STEM learning. Our students work with engineering curriculum to ask questions, explore, create models, evaluate, and explain their thinking. We are preparing our students for a technology-filled world as they get older and providing them opportunities to explore learning through STEM education. Right now, we do not have enough chargers, or an easy place to access them, to keep all of the iPads charged for our students. The Hercules charging stations will keep the iPads charged all the time, and the Simplify wicker storage totes will make the iPads easily accessible to the students. Help us keep our tools charged and organized so that we may use them to their full potential!
