Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are part of a low-income community, and most of their families are field workers. The majority are English language learners who are working towards obtaining English reading proficiency. Living in the east part of Salinas has automatically labeled them as under-educated.

All students have potential.

The key is to offer them learning opportunities that will motivate them to achieve high educational goals. Our future generation needs a push, and we are the ones to offer them this opportunity.

My Project

Our students have individual Chromebooks that they can take home and bring to school every day. Most of their work is done entirely through their Chromebook along with several district assessments. The problem with technology, although great, is that our classrooms lack a place in which to charge devices. We are very limited on outlets and when students have a Chromebook that loses battery quickly, or on occasions, they forget to charge at home, students end up without a device to work on assignments. These charging stations would allow everyone to complete their assignments on time.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
