Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My inquisitive hardworking 5th graders attend a large public elementary school in the South Bronx. Many of my students live in temporary homes, are in foster care, or live in multi-family apartment homes. My students are all below grade level with a wide range of skills.
Despite any hardships that they face out of school, my students are genuinely excited to learn.
They are full of enthusiasm and a love for learning. As their teacher I want to provide them with the tools and experiences that they need to be successful in life.
My Project
Thanks to generous donations to Donorschoose.org projects that we have received over the years, my classroom has been able to acquire classroom technology (3 iPads, 2 Kindles, and 2 Chromebooks). We are slowly working towards a 2:1 student to technological device ratio.
However, we are now facing another obstacle...CHARGING!
We are currently keeping our technology in a basket which I lock in my classroom closet for safe keeping. Since they are being kept in a closet, many times the technological devices are uncharged. When we try to put them to charge we find that the wires are completely tangled and some of the wires have even started to break. Additionally, the devices have to take turns charging around the room because the lack of enough available outlets. Very rarely have all devices charged at the same time.
These technological devices have become a necessity in my classroom. My students use the technological devices every single day to conduct research, to read, to use during indoor recess among many other reasons. It's frustrating for my students when they want to use the device and it is uncharged.
These Tech Tubs will keep our classroom technology charged, safe, and untangled. With them all of our technological devices can be charged at the same time with all the wires kept untangled. Additionally, the locking function of the Techtubs will keep the technological devices safe.
