The students in my first grade class are interested in science, LEGO, making friends, art and cats. They want to succeed even though there are many forces in this country which fight against their efforts. They speak Amharic, Spanish, German, Mandarin, Somali, Latvian, Portuguese and English.
My students are inquisitive, hilarious, honest, ambitious people.
More than half of them are living in poverty and yet they have so much drive to learn. With all of those interests and challenges, our school works hard to know each student's name and need.
My Project
My students have so much energy! They love acting out stories, racing at recess, and sharing their ideas about the world. However, often their enthusiasm is not enough to get them through the day. To keep eyes open and spirits up, we have snack twice per day. Unfortunately, our snack stock is running out!
We need healthy snacks which will help my students recharge and continue learning until the last bell rings.
We also need help energizing the technology in our classroom. Re-chargeable batteries will keep our listening center reading stories during literacy rotations. Lightning cables will charge our iPads so we can practice our skills on MyOn and ST Math.
