Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I plan to use these materials for a club called Character Counts Club. In this club we will discuss and promote the Values Matters Campaign we emphasize in Miami Dade County Public Schools. This campaign teachers students to be better citizens through positive values.
In this club, we will emphasize a value each month and lead by example in practicing the value.
These values are Respect, Responsibility, Citizenship, Fairness, Pursuit of Excellence, Kindness, Cooperation, Honesty, & Integrity. We will promote these values through activities during lunch time and through nominating students to the district that are caught emulating the value that month.
For example, the Character Counts Club will meet each month and discuss the value for that month. We will also come up with an activity to promote the value during lunch. I also have a goal of participating in at least five community service projects throughout the school year such as collecting pajamas for needy children during the Holidays or making home cooked meals for families at Camillus House. As a school counselor, I hope to impact students, teach them to be better people and citizens, and encourage them to serve their community.
