My Students

Our school takes pride in our Character Pillars! We practice respect, trust, caring, citizenship, honesty, and fairness everyday. We want to celebrate our pride in these Character Pillars by displaying them in a school wide mural.

Our students are wonderful caring individuals from often tough environments.

They endure the impossible just to get up to come to school everyday! I get so inspired by their compassion and commitment to their education. Our school is also an Arts school for students in grades K-5. Together we get to enjoy the arts on daily basis! Arts in the schools have been proven to improve reading, math and other content area scores. We are so lucky to be in a school that focuses on Arts Integration in our classrooms. This mural will not only be a great art project, it will also integrate math, science, character, reading, and history. It is a true school wide project that will involve everyone in the school!

My Project

The Character Counts Mural is intended to bring together the whole school to help students get a better understanding of character traits. We spend a lot of time at our school learning and practicing the character traits so that our students may be successful in their lives socially and beyond! The students are 100 percent in charge of researching for this mural, designing this mural and painting this mural. We have partnered with local high school students from the same economical background to help the students implement their plans. Together, the high school students and our students learn a great deal about the character traits and about community beatification. This is a project they can take with them for the rest of their lives!

Creating a piece of artwork is something that takes time, patience, knowledge, and last but not least, courage.

It is a journey that includes self-examination, self-determination and self-confidence. When you come from an environment where all of those things are stripped away daily, art can sometimes be the tool that builds them back. When you are creating something so meaningful and inspiring, sometimes it is exactly what you need to survive. Please support our Mural. These students deserve it
