This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our south Phoenix K–8 special education classroom within an Apple district, we’re seeking support to acquire a Mac monitor, Apple TV, and Apple HomePod to deepen students’ capacity for empathy and compassion. Through immersive visual storytelling—such as documentaries and personal narratives projected via Apple TV and the monitor—students will learn to see the world through others’ eyes, guided by structured reflection circles that prompt them to consider: “How did this make you feel?” and “What might you do differently?” They’ll also share their own stories using iPads and AirPlay, empowering them to adopt peer perspectives and foster classroom connection.

Building on this foundation, students will engage in service-learning experiences—creating care packages or running kindness campaigns—encouraged by role-play and reflection strategies that have proven effective for compassion education.

The HomePod will become our SEL cornerstone, hosting mindfulness sessions, empathy-themed read-alouds, and group discussions that reinforce emotional awareness and caring action.

To measure impact, we’ll use weekly reflection journals (via drawing, writing, or voice recordings) where students articulate how they honored others’ feelings or took kind actions, mirroring evaluation methods from similar projects. We’ll track concrete impact through logs detailing actions taken—such as number of cards made or people helped—and use a simple empathy rubric assessing perspective-taking and compassionate behavior before and after the project. Peer and self-assessments after presentations will quantify emotional growth and interpersonal understanding.

By integrating these accessible Apple tools with intentional empathy-building structures, our students won’t just learn with technology—they’ll develop real-world compassion, measured through reflections, behavior logs, and rubric-based growth. This isn’t just about tech—it’s about nurturing caring changemakers.
