Changing Lives...One Book At A Time

Help me give my students a wide variety of new, exciting, engaging and meaningful books that will encourage and inspire a love of reading. Beginning readers need A LOT of books on A LOT of topics.

My Students

One of the best things about my district (and school) is its diverse population. Countries and cultures from around the world come together here. While rich in heart and history, many families struggle to provide the best for their children. Nearly 80% of our students live in poverty and more than half are English Language Learners. They often arrive at our school after spending years in refugee camps. More and more of our learners are homeless, living in shelters, temporary housing, doubled up with relatives, or in church basements. In spite of these challenges, our students come to school prepared to learn because they know we will always be there to take care of them emotionally and academically.

During this pandemic, it is more important than ever to build a strong home-school connection and make sure students have the supplies they need to learn no matter where they are!

The ability to read is one of the greatest gifts we can give children.

My Project

I have a wide range of learners in my classroom. Some students are well on their way to becoming fluent readers while others are in those emerging stages and have yet to fully develop critical phonics and phonemic awareness skills.

My emergent readers need books on a variety of topics that can connect to different parts of their lives, backgrounds and interests.

The more a student reads, the better reader they will become. In order to have kids excited about books we need to provide them access to exciting books! It needs to be relevant and engaging in order to make a difference.

This project will make a huge difference in my classroom library by providing more choices, topics and books for my readers to enjoy (over and over again!) Please consider a donation. Thank you.
