C.H.A.M.P.S. Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, Participation, Success! These are the steps that my students will be using daily through each area to reach higher levels of success. My students need these materials for the implementation of CHAMPS at our school.
Our school is a 100% free and reduced lunch, Title-1 school located in a high poverty and high crime area in Central Florida.
My students are second graders and over half of my class is working below grade level in several areas. I need to work extra hard this year to work on getting my students caught up to make growth so that they can close the gap. A huge piece of that plan that I have put into place has been finding different ways to motivate my kids other than food. The CHAMPS system has been used through out our county for years, and I am finally getting to try it out in my room. My students deserve so much. Getting the behavior teaching and effective classroom learning will help them go farther in life.
My students will use these materials to go about our daily routines of learning. Each segment of our day will need the sentence strips in the pocket charts to help the students know what is expected from them as class work and behavior. I will write their expectations for all areas on the sentence strips using the markers, and then update each area depending on what we are doing. This is a school wide initiative and my room is a model room for coaching other teachers. My students will become familiar with behavior expectations, learning expectations and more through using this system for classroom and behavior management. This system focuses on positive interactions rather than punitive consequences for teaching students to work in a classroom environment. This will also be a school wide program that I am a coach for other teachers. My classroom will be a model classroom for this.
My students need all sorts of motivation in order to get to work and get quality learning.
My students will love to have this support system in their classroom since it adequately teaches them how to think on their own, and to take responsibility for themselves, eventually. The goal of CHAMPS is to help build a better classroom environment where students feel safe and ready to learn. These are fantastic skills to take with them beyond my classroom.
