While our program has been in existence for over twenty years, having our students in a school by themselves is a new experience. Budget cuts have severely impacted our program. Our physical education department has lent us some recess equipment, but the balls are already flat.
STRETCH students' minds think differently, not only in the classroom, but also at recess.
My students need activities to help keep them challenged while they are interacting with others at recess. The materials selected have many possibilities and will allow the students to really think!
My Project
The students at the STRETCH Center will be able to use the soccer balls and pop up nets to play a real game of soccer. The Omnikin football can be used with their flag football flags for a game of football different from any they have played before. The lighter volleyball will let them practice their skills without having their arms hurting in a few minutes. Our flat kickball can finally be replaced, and the students will not need to worry about what will happen when the ball goes flat. Most of all, the bags will help the students carry all of their equipment from our upstairs classrooms to the playground with ease.
Gifted students need to be challenged, not only in the classroom, but also at recess.
The variety this playground equipment presents will give them a lot of choices, allow them to be creative with their activities, and help keep them physically active. Playground balls and bags may seem unimportant, but without them our students are bored standing around. We need to keep them challenged at recess as well as in the classroom!
