This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are ready to read easy chapter books. The only problem is we don't have them in sets where the teachers can sit down with a small group and walk the kids through how to read a chapter book.

I teach at a Title I school where 95% of our students are economically disadvantaged.

75% of our students come from a home that does speak English. I make it my goal everyday to challenge my students and bring them new life experiences that they might not get outside of the classroom.

My Project

By having these chapter books in sets of 6 it would allow me to work with small groups of students on the chapter books. We would read the book together and the students would read them independently and come back to the group and discuss what they have read. The students will also create projects based on the stories that they read. Projects may include posters, dioramas, and advertisements persuading classmates to read the book.

This project is very important to my students because it takes them to that next step of reading.

They are no longer just reading pictures books. They are reading chapter books, something they have been working very hard for!

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
