Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students of my classroom are very smart and curious children. Their minds are open to new and exciting challenges. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am happy to provide new and exciting learning techniques and methods to teach them. My students come to school each day wanting me to provide them with many opportunities to grow as young mathematicians, readers, writers, artists, and scientists. With my help and guidance they will be able to keep growing as students, as employees, and as well-rounded, happy successful people.
My Project
Sitting in regular chairs each and every day can be tiresome and actually hurt some children. In the classroom, I want them to stay engaged and to fully participate in their learning. When students are uncomfortable or having a hard time sitting still in a regular chair, their focus will be lost. They won't be able to concentrate on learning a new math strategy, a new vocabulary word, or understand what a story might me about. When a child sits on a yoga ball chair, they are able to direct their natural kinesthetic energy and need for movement in a positive way, because the child on a yoga ball chair has to constantly move his body on the chair to maintain his or her balance.
By donating to this project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Movement actually allows for alertness and attention. With more alertness, more learning will take place, students will be more engaged, and ultimately students will feel their new level of successfulness. Rather than squash a child's innate need for movement, yoga ball chairs channel their physical energy in a positive way, allowing them to focus on their work more completely and reach their full potential as learners.
