Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I charter school that focus on Health Project-Based Learning. The majority of our students are considered "at risk". Our students face many life challenges and battles both inside the classroom and outside. Despite this they show up and are amazing human beings wanting to strive in the medical field and break the cycle.
My Project
I believe in high academic achievement, while fostering the social emotional needs of our population. Our students will learn wellness tools like mindfulness and yoga. This will empower students to love, take care, and advocate for themselves, while providing strategies on how to decompress and alternative tools to cope with daily struggles.
Mental health is the first step to learning.
This training will validate the importance of mental health while showing them the techniques to achieve this. This will validate their feelings and teach them that self care is NOT being weak, it's learning to advocate and caring for yourself. It will help create health and social emotional awareness. This includes the faculty in the building.
This project will help cover the cost of the Breathe for Change training program which will help me build on what I know about mindfulness. This program will help me create a positive impact on current and future students, as well as with the faculty of my building.
Breathe for Change is a wellness training program conceived by educators for educators. Upon graduation from Breathe for Change, I will become certified to lead wellness and social-emotional learning programs at my school (both for students and for other educators). Additionally, I will earn a nationally recognized RYT-200 yoga teacher certification. This 3-month virtual program enhances the well-being of educators, students, and greater school communities by training educators in meaningful areas of meditation.
