My Students

I teach visual arts classes in a large school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our school is growing with 1680+ students and so is the visual arts department. Our school is diverse racially and socioeconomically. My students come from all over the metro area. I love my classes because I teach grades 9-12. This semester I will specifically teach beginning and advanced ceramics. In addition I have several students who are taking an independent study in ceramics to grow personally as a ceramics artist and develop their ceramics skills.

My Project

Advanced ceramic students will have the opportunity to participate in Raku firing at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, MN. It is important to me to expose my students to new forms of learning. Many students have not been to the NCC before, so they will be able to visit with professional artists, view the galleries, and fire their work outside in the Raku kilns. Our school doesn't have the capabilities to do this type of firing, so they will learn new skills and techniques. In addition this field trip builds relationships and students learn to work together as a team.
