My Students
I teach visual arts classes in a large school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our school is growing with 1680+ students and so is the visual arts department. Our school is diverse racially and socioeconomically. My students come from all over the metro area. I love my classes because I teach grades 9-12. This semester I will specifically teach beginning and advanced ceramics. In addition I have several students who are taking an independent study in ceramics to grow personally as a ceramics artist and develop their ceramics skills.
My Project
Advanced ceramic students are working to expand and master foundational ceramic techniques this spring. As their teacher it is my mission to offer opportunities to expand what they know about the ceramic medium. I do that by inviting artists from the community into the classroom and a trip to the art museum. It is also important to me to provide opportunities to try different types of clay and tools. The Raku firing will allow students to work with a new artist, learn about the cultural techniques from Japan, and practice taking their pottery from the first firing stage to the next.
