My art students are a highly diverse group of individuals, ranging from very advanced to severely handicapped. The students also range in socioeconomic levels from the very privileged to extreme basic needs. In my classroom, the students work very hard to master to the best of their abilities the art of painting, sculpting and drawing. They love to learn about art, art history and to practice new techniques. Some of my students cannot afford art supplies at home, and do not have access to a fine art education outside of school.
My Project
Help our students to learn about the ancient art functional ceramic pottery! This winter, students will use ceramic clay and the slab construction method to create ceramic mugs. These will be functional vessels for drinking milk, tea and hot cocoa. We will need a lot of ceramic glaze to create over two hundred mugs! Please help us to have a variety of colors in ceramic glaze for students to be able to express their creativity in the glazing portion of our pottery project. The students usually create this project with it being a gift in mind, so there is a strong emotional attachment to the success of this endeavor.
