Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title I school where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students come from diverse backgrounds and a high percentage of students are from low income families. Despite the daily challenges they face outside of school, students come to class each and every day eager to learn.
Providing an environment where students can learn and flourish is key to academic achievement.
My goal is to do that by providing everything they need to do so.
My Project
My students love Reading Centers! In our class, we do Reading Centers every afternoon. It is a time where students can work on the current skill being taught. Students can work on their own or with a partner. The materials students have access to determines how much they are able to apply the skills they are learning about.
Students learn better when they are able to manipulate the materials and make meaningful connections.
The materials for this project are all hands-on and will require students to think critically about each skill. The materials will be beneficial for students on all levels.
