Help me give my students materials such as highlighters, headphones, and storage containers for an organized classroom library so that they can easily access high-interest, culturally relevant texts, as well as materials for individualized learning activities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 6-8th grade students with special needs. My school places an emphasis on developing leaders who will serve their local and global communities, and my innovative students are no exception.
Today's students are tomorrow's leaders.
My students each have a unique set of talents and strengths that make them a valuable addition to our world. In my classroom, they are able to explore these strengths and learn to lead, advocate, and act on the issues that matter most to them.
My students love learning, but because they have disabilities, sometimes it might take an extra push to help them connect the innovative ideas they have in their minds with actions they can take to make it a reality. By striving to include culturally responsive teaching, social justice, and technology in my classroom, my students are challenged to extend their thinking on a daily basis and become the leaders of tomorrow.
My Project
My classroom revolves around several different learning centers. My students love spending time in our classroom library reading center because it is full of high-interest and culturally relevant texts. There are hundreds of well-loved books in our library, but we need a system to organize them. Book bins and materials to label and sort books by genre will help my students find the books they are looking for, as well as discover new favorites and encourage a love of learning.
Given the unique needs of my students, individualized learning tasks are essential.
These materials like highlighters, headphones, and storage containers will help students access rigorous but personalized learning activities, including reading, writing, and listening centers to promote literacy success in the classroom and beyond.
