This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach a 5th grade class that has very low ability students. My students come from low socio-economic families where times are extremely tough. Learning is even tougher for most of them especially in language arts/reading.
Reading and language is the dreaded topic in my room. They find it boring and extremely difficult. Reading and grammar are SO hard for 90% of them that shut down is almost certain.
My students love games, with games that deal with language arts and grammar, they could learn what they need to know without it being pain and agony. These resources give them the chance to practice the skills they need, allowing them to get better at their writing and reading skills in a manner that is fun. These games give them the chance to make mistakes in a non-threatening way yet allows them to learn from those mistakes. Sit down activities get dull and lack the emotion that makes content stick in our brains. These games make the ideas real to the students and in turn help raise their confidence and their grades.
With your support and kindness, you can make the difference in these kids life. Learning to read and write is a necessity. Without it, they won't make it out of their nasty neighborhoods. They don't have a chance without your help. These games can put them on the path to knowing how to read and write properly.
