My Students

As a teacher in a high poverty area, my students are faced with many challenges in and out of the classroom. Against all the odds, they still continue to want to learn. They come to class with smiles on their faces, eager to grow intellectually. Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from having life experiences that many of us see as "typical."

From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth.

I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

We need help building our classroom centers. My students would like some fun and interactive centers to help them prepare for the state test. We will use the High interest Intervention Folders during small groups. We will use one a day to focus on a specific reading skill. My students will use the Context Clues Listening Center during independent centers to help build their listening skills and vocabulary. We will use our dry erase markers for all of our daily learning.

Centers enable my students to interact in a relaxed setting, and empower them to navigate through their learning environment on their own and in diverse groups.

My students will use the centers to develop and prioritize their learning based on their individual needs.
