As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me.
I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence. My students have come from all around the world, from many different and often difficult situations. They hold the American Dream, but need the tools to make them successful.
These materials will make a difference in my students reading and ability to work in groups. Many of my students need basic phonics skills in order to read. These fun activities will help students gain the skills they need in order to decode words. My higher level students need to be challenged. The reading comprehension center will promote higher level thinking skills and group work for those students.
These activities will keep my students engaged while learning.
Also, the centers will provide differentiated instruction for my students based on their educational needs. I know that during the reading block they will feel excited to work in groups with these new materials!
