My students need materials for their daily math and literacy center, such as a math counters library, calendar math program and magnetic sigh word sentence boards.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Title I School in Prince George's County, MD. My students are off to a great start this year! They're such a welcoming, friendly group of kids who are eager to learn and eager to please. Our class this year is a mix of kids who have been in school before and some first-time students who are learning how maneuver their way through the school day. It's only been a few weeks, but I'm already so impressed by my kiddos and excited to see what the year holds for us!
My Project
As we've gotten into our daily routine, it has become clear that we need more supplies for centers, especially during Math. My kids are already doing a great job of working independently in centers and I want them to have high-quality materials to enhance the experience for them. Children at this age learn best while playing games that encourage their learning, and these supplies will help make their centers time more interactive. The Math manipulatives will help students develop their number sense and understand that numbers can be tied to a tangible number of objects. Right now, our room is not stocked with very many manipulatives, so it's hard for students to use as many counters as they may need, especially as they get more comfortable with larger numbers and addition/subtraction.
