This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We run an afterschool program called learning labs where we focus on providing additional reading support to students who are struggling to read at their current grade level. Some of our students are English Language Learners that need examples and realia to make the vocabulary and comprehension connections to increase their reading fluency. I am requesting a Cell and Organisms Kit and Microscopes and Slides for exploration materials so that our students may participate in real-world scientific work during our after-school learning lab reading program.

Our students need supplies and the tools necessary for cell, organism, and microbiology exploration activities to make reading and science come alive while they are learning!

Children love to learn through hands-on activities. Our students need real-world supplies in order to enhance their fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension of the scientific passages that they will be learning about in our Rewards Plus Science Reading Curriculum.

Through this engaging, hands-on approach to learning reading and STEAM skills, our 4th-5th grade students will also be exposed to new scientific knowledge and how scientists think while gaining an appreciation of life science concepts all around them with these hands-on materials. We would love to add these science materials and kits to increase students' reading and science skills at the same time during our learning lab time to help make reading and science fun and accessible for all!
