My Students

My students are bright, gifted, and talented. They love hands-on activities and labs. I try to create lessons that allow students to share and become active members of the classroom. All students feel comfortable and share their thoughts in a non-threatening environment. All of my students qualify for and receive free breakfast and lunch each day. Even though many of my students are from low economic status, they love learning. They come to school excited and ready to learn. The honor's science students that I teach need real-world applications when learning our standards.

My Project

These materials will allow students to explore and develop a deep understanding of cell structure and organelles. Students will conduct experiments and collect data with plant and animal cells.

Students will create wet mounts of purple onion cells and observe them under the microscope; then, the students will add two drops of saltwater on their slides.

By comparing the salt and freshwater, students will observe changes in the size of the vacuoles.

Students will also complete the starch and iodine lab to replicate the role of the cell membrane. This type of excitement is worth cell-abrating, for sure!
