Middle school students quite often need motivation to learn the content. Especially when literacy is a requirement in science class. Students ask, "Why do I need to know this, or why is this important?" Students often struggle with why they are learning certain material, often because they do not see the relevance or apply the content to their daily lives. By reading the "I Survived" books about , tornadoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis. My students will understand the real world application of the content. They will read about people who overcame the odds and survived these natural disasters. These exciting books will make the content come alive when we learn how all of these natural disasters occur on our planet.
