Celebrating Women

My students need color ink for their classroom printer and books, so they can create a stimulating display that celebrates influential women from around the globe.

My Students

My students come from Africa, the Middle East, Asia and South America. Most of them are refugees or asylees who escaped violence and poverty, so they can honor their families with a good education and a happy, safe home. In school, they must learn difficult subjects and pass difficult tests in a new language that is mostly unfamiliar to them. Though they bring the pain that their family had to endure, they bring smiles and determination, too!

The greatest joy of my life is watching the excitement these students have for learning and for pleasing their teachers and family.

They are very respectful and grateful young people who consistently do what is asked of them, while working harder than most to achieve.

My Project

These materials will provide my students with models of influential women from around the globe. The books and ink will be used to create a women's cabinet, decorated inside and out with stories of positive role models. This project will illustrate a series of stories about women who were leaders in art, politics, math, science and literature.

For the young women in my classroom, who also come from all around the globe, these representations of women will educate and inspire.

High School curriculum in English asks students to study American literature under the lens of cultural identity and the American Dream. With these materials, we will create an intriguing display of diverse women who can teach about identity and the pursuit of dreams.
