Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
We are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a school-wide celebration of important and culturally-relevant Latino/a/x history in the classroom and beyond. In an effort to build community, lots of effort is placed in uplifting students' own histories and family background. Every year, we host a large Hispanic Heritage Month celebration where the community is welcomed into our school - students put on dance performances, present posters, and a prominent guest speaker addresses the school.
This upcoming school year, we want to have an even greater Hispanic Heritage Month celebration - in 9th grade history classes, students will examine in depth the history of the Americas and at our end-of-month convocation, we will celebrate all of the wonderful diversity within the larger Hispanic community.
Please consider contributing to the books that students will explore and examine, as well as the decorations for our Hispanic Heritage Month Convocation. Student leaders in this month's planning will receive one of the t-shirts as a gift.
