My Students

I am fortunate to have the opportunity to loop with first and second graders in a small, rural, K-8 school. Looping allows me to teach most of my students for two years. I really love building relationships with my students and their families. Last year I taught a bunch of fabulous first graders. This year, all of those students have stayed with me as now 2nd graders and I've been blessed with a few wonderful additions.

Like all over the world, my students have been through a lot with all of impacts of COVID.

Through it all, they remain inquisitive, creative, kind, compassionate, silly, as well as very busy and eager to learn. My busy bunch has the most amazing hearts. We have created a wonderful classroom community together and they genuinely care about each other. I am blessed to be their guide for yet another year.

My Project

My second graders enjoy learning about people and how they have helped to make a difference in our world. We are currently celebrating Black History Month and my students are highly engaged in what they are learning. They are also craving more! This project will help add more diverse books to our classroom library, give them an opportunity to incorporate reading into art and inspire their own art-making.

These books will help my students view things from different perspectives and realize what a wonderful, diverse world they are a part of.

They will also allow my students the opportunity to learn more about people that have overcome great difficulty to follow their hearts and dreams. By reading and learning about others' experiences they will gain empathy and understanding. We will learn about Black artists such as Ashley Bryan, Alma Thomas, Clementine Hunter and Bill Traylor. We will use the paint and paint cups to create works of art inspired by these artists. The floor chair will give them a comfy place to enjoy these new books.

We appreciate any support and thank you for considering a donation!
