Celebrating Diversity in the Classroom

Help me give my students a complete set of diverse Lakeshore block play people and block play people with differing abilities; books on diversity and empathy; and cooking items (mixing bowls, spoons and measuring cups).

This project expired on December 9, 2019.

My Students

My kindergarten students are deaf and hard of hearing. Our campus, kindergarten through 5th grade, serves deaf students in the greater Central Texas area. Many of our students come from low income households. They often lack supplies and experiences.

Our kids have limited language and experiences.

They need every opportunity possible to have hands on experiences and to fill in the language gap! I want to make learning fun. We work on language and listening skills daily. They are so eager to learn!

My Project

I teach some young, amazing deaf children. I want to be able to provide them with a variety of diverse books, so that they could see themselves in the books.

My deaf students learn through play.

I would like for them to have toys that they can identify with. The block people will help them develop an appreciation for different cultures and people with different abilities.

I'm also requesting cooking materials. Cooking provides hands on experiences for the students and is a great way to promote language. There are so many skills that we can work on through cooking- math, science, language and working together.
