It's time that students learn about the participants of the Civil Rights Movement, the famous and the not so famous leaders. They deserve to have their stories told. Students need to learn early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength.
I teach in a Title I school in which the majority of the student population is economically disadvantaged.
My school is located in a rural area and my students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Many of my students come from single parent families and their income level is far below average. They do not have opportunities to learn about people who have made an impact on different cultures.
I am asking for an ipad mini for my students so that they can research people who struggled to make a difference during the Civil Rights period. I would like my students to write a book filled with informational articles about some of the leaders and the ordinary people who made a difference in the movement. The writings will inspire multicultural awareness and interest and bring respect to these leaders and what they went through. I intend on having my students load their writings onto this iPad and then share these with other grades. In addition, I would like to incorporate the arts into this Civil Rights Curriculum Project by having the students dress the part of one of the Civil rights leaders and do a talk in front of the class while we film their presentations to share with other classes.
By helping fund this project, you are giving my students the opportunity to learn about how the Civil Rights leaders impacted our future and about how the arts can be incorporated throughout the curriculum.
My students need an iPad and cover to help this project get off the ground.
