Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For Philadelphia public school students in the Afro-Latine diaspora, seeing themselves reflected in our classroom library and in our yearlong exploration of cultural history is essential to building their understanding of the world.

Help us celebrate Black History Month and expand our classroom library with books that show the students faces like theirs in fact and fiction.

Students will learn about historical figures, inventors, see fantasy and science fiction stories featuring people of color, and read poems by writers of color like them. I want my class library to reflect the Puerto Rican, Cuban, Mexican, Cambodian, Vietnamese, and African American faces of my students.

Seventh grade is one of the most important years for Philadelphia area students because their reading scores and grades will decide their high school opportunities. These materials will help us prepare for a quarter long study of the civil rights movement through January, February, and March.
