Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom project to celebrate Earth Day is an indoor garden that will have my students exploring plants. Students will have an opportunity to plant and nurture their own plant, learn how to repot the plant using the garden pot craft kit and have the joy of gifting the plant for Mother's Day. Students will feel a sense of accomplishment as they watch their herbs grow and know they helped sustain the plant.
The herb garden will have students learn the benefits and responsibilities of growing herbs for families to use when cooking.
By growing our own herbs, we can learn how to reduce the carbon footprint that comes from buying store-bought herbs. Growing our own herbs will provide us with a constant supply to add flavor to our dishes.
Finally, students will use the Glitter Mosaic Craft kit and the 3D globe craft kit to create replicas of Mother Earth.
Our school community is located in a high-poverty area and the school is a safe haven for my students. I am so proud of the effort the students make every day despite everything that they have experienced in their young lives. Engagement and focus are keywords in our changing learning environment.
