Help me give my students access to developmentally appropriate materials to use during their lesson planning in preparation to earn their National Child Development Associate before graduation!
My Early Childhood Education program is designed to prepare students for a variety of careers working with young children. It includes instruction in child development, child health, nutrition, and safety, as well as, the planning and facilitation of developmentally appropriate play and learning activities. Child guidance, family relationships, and parenting are also addressed. In addition to technical skills, students completing our program will also develop advanced critical thinking, applied academics, career development, and employability and life skills.
At least 75% of my students' time is actually spent observing and working with children ages birth to 5 in our licensed child care center under the direct supervision of professional staff.
Students are required to plan and facilitate activities to help young children learn and develop, prepare nutritious snacks and meals, actively participate in all indoor/outdoor activities, demonstrate effective classroom management skills and positive guidance techniques and assist with the maintenance and sanitation of the classroom.
Upon completion of this 2 year program, advanced students also may be eligible to receive their National Child Development Associate Credential from the Council for Professional Recognition!
My Project
Developing a “Student-Teacher Library” to provide students with access to a variety of developmentally appropriate materials to strengthen their capacity for selecting materials to enhance learning and promote the development of our Tiny T-Birds. As well as, prepare them for their verification visit to earn the national Child Development Associate credential.
Such materials include a wide variety of manipulatives, puzzles, board books, paperback library, story telling props, musical instruments, sensory items, language and literacy game sets, complete sets of math skill boxes and STEAM sets.
In addition, students will have access to enhanced technology (ipad keyboard and colored picture printer) to help them document children's learning and evidence of their teaching which is an important component in the development of their Professional Portfolio required by the Council for Professional Recognition.
Last school year, we had 7 students successfully earn their National Child Development Associate prior to graduation! By making program enhancements like this possible, I’m confident that this number will continue to increase this year!
