My students need award winning books with rich vocabulary such as Julian, Dream Doctor , and Miami Jackson, with stories about kids like them, as well as other classic tales.
Our fourth graders come from many different backgrounds and are eager to read. Some of our students do not have access to books at home. Many of our classroom library books are held together with tape. Over half of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunch, and our school offers universal free breakfast.
The students I teach are excited about reading a variety of genres of books.
They look forward to getting to know new characters who live in places just like where we live, and characters who live in far away places and times, and characters who live in the future!
My Project
Getting to read books about kids we relate to is a treat! Learning about far away times and places is something we also look forward to getting to do. These new books will supplement our classroom library with both classic tales and contemporary award winning books.
This collection of titles ensures that every child, no matter what reading level they are on, will have new books they can access and enjoy.
By adding this new collection, I know I will catch some reluctant readers, as well as those who already love books, sneaking a peak at a great new book.
