My Students

"Doing whatever it takes to ensure success for every child." That is our motto! Our students come from diverse backgrounds. Our nine hundred-plus population receives free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students have experienced significant trauma in their lives, and school is a safe space for many of them.

My middle schoolers defy the odds with their bravery.

We hope to create a loving, caring, respectable learning environment by being sensitive to both their academic needs, as well as their social and emotional needs.

My Project

The fluorescent lights in our classroom are harsh on the eyes.

LED lights and cushions would bring a sense of calmness and promote positive learning to our math classroom comfortable learning environment.

Making the space more inviting, welcoming, and comfortable could create a positive impact on how students feel and act. Having lighting that reflects a calm, safe space is very important to me. The way that students feel in my classroom is crucial to optimal learning.

Research studies (The Impact of Fluorescent and LED Lighting on Students Attitudes and Behavior in the Classroom by Brenda L. Morrow, Shireen M. Kanakri~College of Architecture and Planning, Ball State University, USA) have shown that fluorescent lighting can cause headaches and migraines, increase anxiety, decrease concentration, and instill an overall sense of discomfort after long-term exposure. LED lights would be beneficial for everyone in the schools – teacher and student alike!
