Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We all enjoy our trips to the beach, playing in the sand, building sand castles. For our students the sand box in our play yard is the only experience they'll have with sand. The consistency of the moon sand allows our students to mold the sand without the need to mix it with water.

I teach a preschool/kindergarten multiple disabilities class at a special education center.

My class consists of 13 students children ages 3-6. 9 of my students fall under of the MDO category and 4 are peer models (typically developing children. They are all non-ambulatory (with the exception of our 4 peer models)but we have adapted sand boxes that they are able to access with their equipment.

My Project

Our program needs Moon Sand for our sandbox. Our students will be able to overcome their tactile aversions as well as assist them with their fine motor skills and the strengthening of their hand muscles. They will also get to simulate activities that they would experience at a beach, which most of them will never see.

Help our students experience the simple pleasures we often take for granted.
