¡Casa de Arbol Engages Readers!

My students need books in Spanish that are engaging. When I got the first book in the Magic Treehouse series in Spanish, so many of my students were so excited and wanted the whole series!

My Students

Almost 75% of the students in our school are on free or reduced lunch or are considered impoverished. Even so, you wouldn't know it by their positive attitudes.

My students come from some very difficult and challenging backgrounds, and still come to school caring for one another and willing to learn.

We offer all of our students an IB (International Baccalaureate) education for middle school called the MYP (Middle Years Program). It allows for all students to take classes in ALL subject areas, including another language, without separating students into IB students and non-IB students. All of our students get access to a rigorous, innovative academic program regardless of their background or test scores. I'm lucky I get to teach them Spanish!

My Project

Students who are engaged in their reading are more likely to retain the information and learn from the reading. Often in my class, students get to have free reading time where they get to choose whatever interests them from my Spanish book library. My students get more excited about this voluntary reading time, when I have book or magazine options they can relate to and connect with.

When I found out how excited students were about reading the Magic Treehouse series in Spanish, I wanted to give them that opportunity!

Hopefully this will continue to get students excited about learning and reading Spanish!
